Two ancient cities, one unhurried day.
Herculaneum in the morning, Pompeii in the afternoon — one private car, one driver, and as much time as you want at each site. Pick-up and drop-off from Naples, Sorrento or anywhere nearby.
Smaller site first, then the main event
Herculaneum is compact and quick to visit well; Pompeii is much larger and rewards more time. Doing them in this order avoids saving the smaller site for when everyone's tired.
Pick-up at your hotel
Your driver collects you wherever you're staying — a hotel in Naples, the cruise port, the airport, Napoli Centrale station, or anywhere nearby such as Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast. Just tell us your address when you request the quote.
Herculaneum
Smaller and far less crowded than Pompeii, Herculaneum was buried differently — by pyroclastic flow rather than ash — which preserved wood, fabric and even upper floors that rarely survive elsewhere. Compact enough to see well without rushing.
≈ 1.5–2 hoursLunch break
A short drive to Pompeii's town, with time for lunch before the afternoon at the ruins. Your driver can suggest a few trusted, reasonably priced spots near the site.
≈ 1 hourPompeii
The larger and more famous of the two sites — full streets, villas, the forum, and the plaster casts that made Pompeii known worldwide. Most guests need considerably longer here than at Herculaneum.
≈ 2.5–3 hoursMount Vesuvius
If you'd like to add the crater trail above both sites, let us know in advance — it adds roughly 2 hours to the day, including the walk up from the car park, and is easiest arranged before Pompeii rather than after.
+ ≈ 2 hoursDrop-off wherever suits you
Your driver takes you back to where the day started, or anywhere else you'd like to be dropped — just mention it when booking.
Buried differently, preserved differently
Herculaneum
A smaller, wealthier seaside town, preserved in extraordinary detail by the same eruption that destroyed Pompeii — wood beams, roof timbers and even food remains survive here.
Pompeii
The larger and most famous site, with full city blocks, villas and the plaster casts of victims that made the eruption of 79 AD known around the world.
Mount Vesuvius
The volcano responsible for both sites, and an optional add-on for this tour if you'd like to look down into the crater that caused it all.
Built to flex around you
This isn't a coach tour on a fixed schedule — it's your car and driver for the day, so time at each site can shift based on how much you want to see. History buffs often want longer in Pompeii; families with younger kids sometimes prefer more time at compact, easy-to-walk Herculaneum.
Mount Vesuvius can be added to this tour on request, best arranged in advance so we can plan the extra time and the separate crater-trail ticket.
Neither site's entrance ticket is included in the transfer price — your driver can point you to official ticket counters, and we're happy to recommend licensed local guides if you'd like a more in-depth visit.
